Buzzi and Nuada Launch CO2 Capture Pilot at Monselice Cement Plant

Buzzi Unicem has launched a groundbreaking pilot project at its Monselice cement plant, collaborating with Nuada, a UK leader in carbon capture technologies. This innovative project marks a significant leap in cement industry sustainability efforts.

Nuada’s advanced technology employs an electrically powered system that captures CO2 from industrial flue gases through pressure rather than heat. This novel approach has been successfully operational and is currently capturing one tonne of CO2 per day from the cement flue gas at the Monselice plant.

This pilot project represents a major advancement in the decarbonization of the cement industry. Nuada’s technology integrates state-of-the-art Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) with a proven Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption (VPSA) process. The use of MOFs in this system enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of CO2 capture, setting a new benchmark for the industry.

The initiative at Monselice aligns with Buzzi Unicem’s broader sustainability goals, underscoring the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint. By showcasing Nuada’s cutting-edge carbon capture technology, the project highlights a viable path toward achieving significant CO2 reductions in cement production.

The success of this pilot could pave the way for broader adoption of this technology across the cement sector, driving forward the industry’s efforts to meet stringent sustainability targets. This project not only reflects Buzzi’s dedication to environmental stewardship but also emphasizes the potential for innovative technologies to transform industrial practices.

As the cement industry faces increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions, collaborations like this are crucial. Buzzi and Nuada’s partnership serves as a model for how advanced technology and strategic innovation can contribute to meaningful progress in sustainability.
